Since the holidays were right around the corner, we thought it would be fun to surprise our families on Christmas Eve with the babies' gender. I was approaching 16 weeks (my OB, Dr. Heilbronn, was not planning our anatomy scan until 20 weeks), so a 4D elective ultrasound studio in Brighton, Baby Envision, helped us accomplish this goal a bit early: It's a Girl! So, we decided on a first name (Ava) and put a "Grandparent's Survival Kit" (including books, bibs, pacifiers, and a photo album) together to present to our parents at Christmas Eve dinner. We were planning a nice family meal at the Panda House restaurant in Saginaw, and we shared our good news in between delicious courses of crab cheese wontons and sweet & sour chicken. Our parents surprised us, in turn, by presenting us with my childhood rocking horse, lovingly restored and with a fresh coat of paint. It was a memorable start to the Christmas holiday!
